Why only Middle School

Middle school is  a critical time for personal, social, emotional, and intellectual development. Students are not only developing the academic skills they will need in high school, but they are also undergoing significant personal changes that shape their identities, relationships, and worldview. The experiences, challenges, and growth that happen during this time lay the foundation for success in high school, college, and adulthood. Hale Kula offers small class sizes and differentiated learning that are proven to best support the middle-schooler during these formative years. By targeting our teaching to just this group, we can meet the indivual needs of every student, and empower them for high school and beyond.

Our Teaching pillars

Our instruction methods were created by our founder Gwyneth Wallace, who has over thirty years of teaching experience. Student autonomy and family relationships are integral to a quality, child-driven program. We will work together to create a robust and enjoyable program for your student to foster a genuine love of learning.

Curriculum & Schedules

Our curriculum choices change based on what will work best for each student. We offer core academics Monday-Thursday, and Friday is for electives and experiential learning.

We also offer standards-based ELA and Math tutoring classes in the late afternoons, as well as test prep for our fifth and eighth graders.

Tutoring Options & Homeschool support

We open in-person spots for individual and small group tutoring during each session, as well as virtually in the evenings and on Saturdays. We also offer parent sessions on making informed decisions in homeschooling for your family, including curriculum recommendations and help with creating your daily schedule. Reach out anytime for more information on these options.
